Chrono Trigger Ds Rom Patch

This game is great; the story can feel a little dragged out midway in the game but it picks up again not too long after. Besidesm why would you want a game such as this to be short, to make a long story short? If you're looking for a faster paced RPG than Final Fantasy then you will get just as much beauty and substance as you would from other square games and just that I suggest picking it up especially if your a Sci-fi fantasy lovers.

And if you're looking for its sequel it is a psone game called Chrono Cross, also a very good game. Beware though, it is your classic wait/active RPG but the battle system is quite different.

This was one of the best RPG's that I have ever played, hands down!
I would equate this game to being very similar to the Final Fantasy series. Socom fireteam bravo 2. The battles have the same wait/active meter that was uniquely belonging to Final Fantasy for a time, which make this game so much more enjoyable than most RPG's. I had played all of the Final Fantasy games available on the SNES at the time of first playing Chrono Trigger and was looking for another RPG that I would enjoy just as much. Chrono Trigger was definitely an excellent choice!
The storyline is pretty good. You get to travel through different time eras throughout the entire game, which also makes this game stand apart from all the others. After the first half though, the story does begin to lack some, and your quest seems to be a bit aimless, but the gameplay is still spectacular so, what is there really to complain about?
The soundtracks for this game were really wonderful as well! There are so many of them too, and rarely will you ever see a song repeated in another location.
I was thrilled when I saw this game re-released on the DS and immediately had to get it to try it! It basically is the very same to the original SNES version, only with a bunch of added in extras such as a music box, art and a few other things. Otherwise, gameplay is pretty much the same as well as the story.
I felt that this game ended all too soon and needed a sequel terribly. It was really a wonderful find, and a must to any RPG fan!

Square Enix shocked the gaming world in February with a surprise, stealth release of Chrono Trigger on Steam. Unfortunately for the publisher, surprise and joy quickly turned into anger and refunds when it became apparent that the surprise release was yet another port of a Square Enix mobile version. Unlike Final Fantasy V and VI, Square Enix decided to do right by fans with Chrono Trigger. Rather than pull the game off of Steam, the publisher announced plans to ship multiple patches to address the number of issues plaguing the one title Square seems to hold sacred. The latest patch shipped today, and the UI is actually bearable now.

The game's original, SNES graphics being added was the very first thing on the list. The 'high resolution' graphics Chrono Trigger shipped with on Steam were clearly anything but, and it made the game outright unplayable. The last few patches have focused on tweaking the game's UI, which up until today, was obvious that it was designed with mobile devices in mind. If you somehow prefer that version of the UI, you can still use it by changing your input method to mouse or touch pad in the settings. For people who prefer a less intrusive UI, the game defaults to the new keyboard/gamepad interface, which looks so much nicer. For just one example, the screenshot above shows the equipment/status screen using the new interface, while the screenshot below shows the original, touch-based design.

The giant yes/no dialog buttons have also similarly been displaced, with a much smaller, and infinitely better looking box for the new standard UI. You'll also notice the title screen got a much needed overhaul as well, bringing Chrono Trigger's Steam release a much bigger step closer to being the true, definitive edition Square Enix claims it's supposed to be. There's still at least one more patch scheduled for the game, and that will bring the ability to rebind inputs for your chosen controller. With the number of minigames in Chrono Trigger, Square wants to make sure everything acts as it should, so that feature will be coming in a patch due out later next month.

For the true Chrono Trigger connoisseur, next month's patch will still leave three giant, glaring problems with the game. The ability to view which endings you've already obtained, as well as the music box and other bonus features from the PlayStation's Final Fantasy Chronicles version of Chrono Trigger are still missing. Second, the achievements list is rather lacking, with each of the 13 representing one of the game's many endings including the additional finale frorm 2008's DS release. The third, and possibly most important issue, is Frog's lack of old English from the SNES release. For those of us that grew up with Chrono Trigger, it helped hammer home the Medieval knight that Frog was meant to be, but his Medieval voice is nowhere to be found.

Compared to the issues plaguing the game's initial launch, these are pretty minor and hopefully something fans can beg for now that the game is actually playable. It's been a bumpy journey for Chrono Trigger's PC release, but the game is finally in a playable state without being too obvious that it was initially just another Square Enix mobile port.
